modern diseases

According to the latest statistics only three diseases-heart disease, cancer and diabetes-cause three out of every four deaths in the United States. Heart disease is the number one cause of death in this country, causing approximately 50% of all deaths.

Cancer is the number two cause of death, and the rate of many types of cancer keeps increasing. In fact the World Health Organization has predicted that the global cancer rate will increase 50% by the year 2020, especially in developing countries.

Diabetes type II (non-insulin dependent) is one of the fastest growing diseases in our society. The rate of diabetes has increased by 700% since the end of World War II. The most alarming aspect of this tragedy is that the rate of diabetes type II, which used to be called adult-type diabetes, has increased up to 1000% among children and teenagers in the last few years. Diabetes is considered an epidemic among the Hispanics in the United States and other Latin American countries, as well as other minority populations within the U.S.

What these diseases have in common is that all three of them are related to our lifestyle, including our diet and exercise (or lack thereof!).

In this seccion you will find information about these and other diseases and the best way to control and prevent them.
